Many will try because...

Authentic: not false or copied; genuine; real: an authentic antique.
Passionate: having or ruled by intense emotion or strong feeling; fervid.

I was privileged to attend a special event tonight.  The night was special because the speaker was authentic and passionate.  He was wholly and fully, 100% authentic and passionate about his love for Jesus Christ.

The speaker began the night describing his life before Jesus. Life for him consisted of being an outcast in school and bullied. He eventually chased drugs, money, fame... he hoped the pursuit of pleasure would remove his pain and emptiness. The thing was his story is no different than thousands of others. It is almost a cliche which goes a little like this... "I ruined my life with drugs, sex, criminal behavior, etc. and Jesus saved me."  The difference, once again, was authenticity and passion.

I have learned people, especially students and young adults, crave authenticity. They want it so badly they will jump off a cliff to get it. A vision or dream described with authenticity and passion will always be attractive. People want to be part of something special. Something bigger. Jesus Christ is bigger. Special. Real. Jesus proved that through the speaker tonight.

When the guest speaker made the offer for those who were tired and empty to come forward and stand center stage, I was surprised at the response. Eighty or so answered the call to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The audience was largely teens and young adults. His prayer for them was passionate. He was real. They trusted his story and therefore was a credible witness for Jesus Christ. The trusted Jesus Christ was real because of the speaker.  Eighty... are willing to trust Jesus.

This generation has plenty of reasons to be skeptical about organized anything... education, government, and religion. The speaker was Korn’s Brian “Head” Welch.  Again, because he was authentic and passionate, they trusted Jesus Christ.

Have a good and godly day.       Comments
